ShipPet mourns the loss of Rosey

ShipPet has lost a friend and a long time client.  Rosey passed away over the weekend because of a tumor.  It was just 3 short years ago we said farewell to Rosey’s brother, Bogus.

Rosey was a timid girl at first meeting.  As a big German shepherd, it would be easy to be a bit afraid of Rosey, but the reality is, Rosey was more timid and shy of people than people had to be of her.  Once Rosey got to know us and warmed to us, the loving, fun, prancing side of her came out.    She would greet us at the backyard gate, prance along right on your side, and then you could sit down, pet her head, and watch her tail wag at the attention.  She loved her treats too.  Even during her shy moments, Rosey would come up close, slowly, just to nab a treat.

The funny moment I remember of Rosey was the walks we would take back in the back part of the yard, along with brother bogus, and watch Rosey hop like a bunny in the field behind, because of all the bugs.  It was an absolute thrill and joy sitting for Rosey and she will be missed by us here at ShipPet.

Our condolences and sympathies go out to the Binkley Family and her sister Jesse.

Wow, what a June!

What A hectic June and soon to be 4th of July holiday!

The recovery of the economy may be slow, but Shippensburg residents are traveling. We were slammed with pet sitting bookings, many with customers brand new to ShipPet. We welcome you all!

If pre-bookings are any indication, July is going to be just as heavy if not heavier. We at ShipPet have never turned bookings down, but if July is even heavier than June, we could possibly have to for the first time.

Our suggestion is, if you’re planning travel for July and/or August, we suggest contacting us as soon as you know your dates of travel so you can be assured to get on our calendar!

Your summer vacation planning

This is a big time for many to plan summer vacations.  Beach trips, mountains, wherever, summer vacation planning is heating up.

With that, so is our calendar at ShipPet.  Whether you are planning a multi-week long, week long, weekend long, or just day trips, keep ShipPet in your planning thoughts.  As summer approaches, our calendar gets daunting as more and more reservations get scheduled.  The sooner you plan with us, the more likely your reservation spot will be available.  There are some weeks during the summer that we at times had to turn away last minute reservations because of how busy we were.  Don’t get caugh in that.

More snow … and cheers to Shippensburg Borough

The Shippensburg area was hammered again on Wednesday with more, more, and more snow.  It looks right now like the area was pelted with another foot of snow.

Shippensburg area roads did not close Wednesday, despite a steady stream of snow nearing 1 foot.

According to Dr. Tim Hawkins, assistant professor of geography and earth science at Shippensburg University, the area saw 10.7 inches of snow by 1 p.m. Wednesday. Snow started falling at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday and continued steadily.

ShipPet gives a big round of applause to the Shippensburg Borough workers and Penn DOT workers who did an absolutely phenomenal job keeping roads open and as clear as could be.  You really don’t know what you got until you experience something different.

Take for instance last Sunday, we had tickets to go see the Capitals/Penguins game.    The blizzard snowfall struck Friday and Saturday and we were not quite sure what to expect.  Driving down Interstate 81 on Sunday, it was bone dry, not even an ounce of slush.   Then we hit State Line, the Maryland border, right at Citibank.  Within 200 feet of entering Maryland we hit thick sheets of ice all over I-81 and traffic crawled to 20 MPH.    We immediately turned around and went home.  Peple can get mad, angry, or whatever at PennDOT, but that made me realize how much better our Department of Transportation and our local municipalities are than many, many areas, even Hagerstown, right down the road.   It literally was like crossing state line and entering a state of paralysis.

So think when you get frustrated with our snow removal and just remember you got it lucky.

Kudos to Shippensburg Borough workers for their tons of overtime and dedication to keep our roads as clear as possible.  They made it much easier for ShipPet to services our clients, and yes, once again, the storm did not get in our way!

Here is the parking notice for Saturday.

On Saturday, Feb. 13, from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., Shippensburg Borough workers will be removing snow on Queen, Washington, Prince and Penn streets. In order for this to be successful, the borough is asking that vehicles be removed from those streets during that time.

Epic winter storm, ShipPet delivers

Well, we are in the midst of a huge Noreaster, it is now 11 AM and two pet clients have been serviced early this morning.  We managed to snow blow our way out of our drive way, get the all wheel drive vehicle cleaned, and yes, we got the pets out and fed.

You can count on ShipPet!  Winter storm or no, we get our clients serviced.  We get your pets cared for, we take care of business. It was actually a little amusing at times to watch my wife, who is small herself, make her way through un-plowed and un-shoveled drive ways.   But we did it, and we’ll do it the rest of the day!   Now, the hard part.  Now to figure out how to get my little Chihuahua out.

Now, onward to the back pained laced snow removal at home!

Haiti from a pet perspective

It has been pretty awful watching on the news the complete devastation of Haiti, resulting from the big earthquake.  It literally looks like hell had come to earth in that single destination.  Hundreds of thousands dead, even more injured, and even more than that homeless.  I hope you find it in your heart to help out if you can, in anyway you can.  We have made contribution to the American Red Cross and via our cell phones by texting $10 contributions.

You can donate tot he American Red Cross relief efforts by clicking HERE.

So much help will be needed beyond just the initial relief efforts.  Haiti will need to be rebuilt as the capitals city of Haiti is literally in ruin.

By cell phone, to contribute, simply text  90999 and the word HAITI and you will be charged $10 0n your cell phone bill, and that $10 will go to Haiti relief.

Beyond the horrific human toll, hundreds of thousands of pets, dogs, cats, and more, are homeless, have been killed, or are without any owner.   There are American veterinary relief programs in effect and heading to Haiti to help out.  What is known are estimates of animals in Haiti before the earthquake.  What we don’t know is what is in Haiti now.

WSPA, along with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) and other animal welfare groups that have united as the Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti (ARCH), plan to arrive in Haiti this weekend. It is estimated that there were 5,925 poultry, 1,450,000 cattle, 1,900,000 goats, 500,000 horses, 80,000 mules, 1 million pigs and 153,000 sheep before the earthquake, according to most recent data from the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization.

The US Humane Society will be doing their part as well.

That doesn’t mean that people in Haiti don’t care about animals, however, and I’m certain that our team will find citizens doing their best to provide care for animals in a dire situation, and grateful for the service and resources we can provide. We expect to find dogs, cats, chickens, goats, pigs, and other domestic animals in need, and we’ll do our best to support those who are trying to help them.

You can also donate to the Disaster Relief Fund of the US Humane Society to help relief efforts in Haiti, in regards to animals.  CLICK HERE.

Spring is around the corner…

Doesn’t feel like it though.  We have been engulfed in a serious cold stretch here.  But, with the new year upon us, it usually means people begin to plan their summer vacations.  We are as well.

We encourage you to put ShipPet on your vacation checklist of things to do early to prepare for your Spring or Summer travels.  Beginning around March the whole way through August, there are some weeks that get pretty booked up to the point we need to turn clients away.  To ensure it doesn’t happen for your travel plans, get on our calendar nice and early and reserve your spot.
